Gary DeMichele has just finished his 2025 European tour starting in Copenhagen, then Spain and Finland. Back to the states, then to Reykjavik, Iceland for the screening of indie breakout film 'Big Night' for RIFF, the Reykjavik International Film Festival, which features Gary's score, for which they hosted a dinner, screening, and Q&A. It was a busy year.
As composer, Gary’s film credits include the critically acclaimed Big Night—winner of the Waldo Salt Award, widely considered a landmark in American independent cinema—as well as Off the Map, directed by Campbell Scott, which won the Taos Land Grant Award for Best Film. He has collaborated with directors such as Stanley Tucci, Alan Rudolph, and Eric Simonson across various acclaimed projects.
In addition to composing for screen and stage, Gary writes and records original music for his own projects, performs, produces, and teaches. He is a regular participant in artist residencies, where he contributes as a composer, collaborator, or performer. Currently, he is developing both a new play and a feature film with longtime collaborator Campbell Scott.
As performer, Gary DeMichele is available for private and
public engagements domestically and overseas. These performances
include ensembles and solo piano, solo piano and voice, and drum
and percussion work. Gary has performed with Walt Weiskopf,
Richard Drexler, Chris Collins, Jeff Mickus, Tim Hagans, Kelly
Sill, Kenny Drew Jr.,He has played and recorded with Danish
bassist Jens Jefsen,Swedish Saxophonist Jonas Granberg, and has
also recorded with guitarist Mike Stern and bassist Edmond
Gilmore, among other collaborations.
